Director, Indiana Charter Schools Services Center
The Indiana Charter Schools Services Center (ICSSC), a program of the Greater Educational Opportunities (GEO) Foundation, seeks a highly motivated, self starter to serve as Director of the program. The ICSSC is a statewide support organization that provides technical assistance and aid to Indiana’s charter schools. The Indiana Charter Schools Services Center (ICSSC) is dedicated to the development and successful establishment of charter schools. The ICSSC proactively promotes the sharing of ideas, best practices and experiences among Indiana’s new and existing charter schools and provides essential technical and informational services. The agenda for the ICSSC is directed by Indiana’s charter schools.

The Director of the ICSSC oversees the entire program by setting the agenda for the program and working closely with the leaders of each of Indiana’s charter schools. Specifically, the Director will be responsible for providing technical assistance by conducting research and answering questions for the charter schools in a variety of academic and operational areas. The Director will identify and write grant applications for the individual charter schools and attend relevant workshops and conferences to gather essential information for the charter school leaders. In addition, the Director’s duties include assisting developing charter school organizations with the all aspect of the charter school application process at each of the state’s sponsoring entities. Finally, the Director will coordinate efforts on behalf of the entire Indiana charter school movement with other state organizations, including the Charter School Sponsors, Indiana Department of Education, Charter School Association of Indiana, and the Charter School Resource Center of Indiana.

Qualified candidates will have at least 2-3 years experience with charter school management, oversight, or operation. Experience with grant writing and solicitation is preferred. Candidates must thrive in a fast paced environment that requires an ability to manage multiple responsibilities and a dedication to school reform efforts. Washington, DC: Director of Real Estate
KIPP, a national, non-profit organization that trains and supports school leaders to open and run high performing public schools, is seeking an experienced real estate professional to manage all aspects of its school facilities program. KIPP schools provide educationally underserved students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond. There are currently 32 KIPP schools in operation nationwide. The Director of Real Estate will work in the Real Estate Group to identify and secure school properties, and to manage the design, construction or renovation of these properties. Chicago, IL: Executive Director
The Cross City Campaign for Urban School Reform is a national network of school reform leaders working together to improve urban public schools. It brings together parents, community members, teachers, principals, students, administrators, researchers, union officials and funders to promote the systemic transformation of urban public schools, particularly those schools serving students of color and students from low-income communities. Based in Chicago, the organization’s staff and programs support efforts in nine cities across the country to create high-quality schools; advocate for policies and practices that move authority, resources, and accountability to the school level; reconnect schools with their communities; and rethink the role of school districts. The organization’s core activities are training and leadership development, policy analysis and research, advocacy, technical assistance, developing publications and training materials, and organizing working meetings to share best practices. Denver, CO: Head of School
Carney, Sandoe & Associates has been retained by the Denver School of Science and Technology to assist for the search for its founding Head of School, who will commence employment in July of 2004. Fueled by a challenge grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the school will be a small, innovative charter school which aims to become the premier public high school for math, science, and technology in the state. Its founders also seek to make this exceptional school with high academic standards accessible to a diverse group of students and to integrate project-based learning and technology, along with more traditional teaching methods, across the curriculum. Governor Bill Owens of Colorado is leading the drive to raise $12 million for a new and futuristic, 60,000 square foot facility. The school will enroll its first 9th grade class in September of 2004, and add a grade each subsequent year until its serves 425 students in grades 9 through 12.

The founding Head of School will serve as its chief executive officer, reporting to a distinguished Board of Trustees. The Head will be responsible for hiring, professional development, compensation, and all other personnel matters; oversight and development of all academic programs and curricula; enrollment management; budgeting and financial management; legal and regulatory compliance; and management of the 10-acre campus.
