About CER: The mission of the Center for Education Reform is to expand educational opportunities that lead to improved economic outcomes for all Americans, particularly our youth, ensuring that the conditions are ripe for innovation, freedom and flexibility throughout U.S. education. Our vision is a country and states that provide increased, quality educational opportunities that secure our nation’s freedom and future prosperity.  The intern will partner with CER staff to help forward this mission.

Internship Goals and Objectives:  Work with professional staff and consultants in support of all aspects of education policy including research, advocacy, legislative affairs, and public relations. 

Requirements: Applicants must have an interest in education, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector. Your passion and willingness to learn should be paired with sharp research and written communication skills. Applicants should be in their sophomore, junior or senior year of college.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Research current education issues, collect data, analyze reports, prepare policy briefs including conducting research and contributing editorial content to CER’s publications 

• Support outreach efforts to members of Congress, state legislators, charter school leaders and the media; 

• Maintain contact profile information for policy makers, charter school leaders and other key constituencies; 

• Research and contribute to our social media outreach and website posts with interesting and topical content; 

• Assist with mailings, press releases, database entry, filing, and answering the phone as needed; 

• Assist with events and meetings as needed

 

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:  Applicants must have an interest in education, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector and demonstrate sharp research and written communications skills. Proficiency in MS suite and use of Google Drive.

Key Success Factors: Professional, well-organized, punctual, attention to detail, superb writing and editing skills. 

Interns should plan to work at least 15 and up to 40 hours per week.  Interns receive a daily stipend to defray expenses.
