About the role:
We envision this role to be directly involved in the development of messages and strategies that help communicate the work of The Yass Prize and the Center for Education Reform far and wide throughout the nation, finding and building alliances that help amplify the work, and in partnership with the digital and media teams, which would be co-directed by this position. While this position would not be responsible for media and communications, it would be directly attached and integrated into that work. The person in this role would support, direct and coach the communications staffers. The Vice President of Advocacy is responsible for developing and overseeing the efforts to make The Yass Prize a household name while enhancing the awareness and knowledge of the STOP for education principles. The position will work directly with leadership on developing a communications and partnership strategy that will help further our objectives. Execution is the responsibility of the Vice President of Advocacy. The person in this role will build robust and collaborative internal and external relationships to achieve The Yass Prize priorities.
Responsibilities include:
Strategic leadership in Advocacy, Communications, and Engagement
- Drive a growth-oriented comprehensive strategic marketing and communications program that effectively communicates and perpetuates The Yass Prize’s story and value proposition among key audiences, especially in growing the number of applicants for The Yass Prize.
- Drive a mobilization strategy that builds and activates a movement of STOP education principles champions through meaningful engagement, network development and support, and other approaches.
- Utilize, support and be the primary liaison to all Yass Prize and STOP Award alumni.
- Manage The Yass Prize community of applicants to drive movement change.
- Drive team and organizational focus on targeted regional/state strategies that bring an integrated approach to inclusive growth paired with strategic stakeholder relationship management.
- Identify, document, and communicate with organizations and networks that can promote and amplify the STOP Award (i.e. SPN, Philanthropy Roundtable). This also includes communication with organizations that already support our work.
- Manage issue advocacy campaigns supporting The Yass Prize goals and objectives related to communications-related priorities.
- Participate and lead on the organization’s senior leadership team.
Team Leadership
- Lead and co-manage with the CEO a communications team with direct reports, including the Digital Media Manager and Communications Manager.
- Develop and coordinate communications strategies to reach and inform critical audiences.
- Ensure digital, social, and earned media efforts and goals are fully integrated.

Qualifications
- 8-10 years of experience working in communications-related roles
- Incredibly well-organized
- Strong time management skills
- Bachelor’s degree /Master's in a business-focussed area a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000 depending on years of experience, accomplishment and performance
