About the Role

The Special Assistant is a pivotal role within CER, primarily focused on supporting and providing back up to the Executive Assistant to the CEO as well as helping with events, policy, writing and program support. This position will ensure the operational and administrative efficiency of the CEO’s office. The ideal candidate will be a highly competent generalist who is a hard worker looking to learn on the job as you determine your future career path. To be a good fit, the candidate must be politically and policy-aligned. The role demands excellent time management and communication skills to effectively support the organization’s strategic objectives.

 Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the CEO’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Oversee expense reporting and manage administrative duties for the leadership team.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including CEOs, elected officials, donors, and media representatives.
  • Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence and communications, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Maintain and update databases, spreadsheets, and documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Facilitate office operations, including mail handling, deposits, and document reproduction.
  • Assist in the organization and execution of events, managing logistical elements from material preparation to on-site coordination at events.
  • Respond to information requests and assist in organizational operations, promoting team collaboration.

Key Attributes

  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of synthesizing and presenting information concisely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite; willingness to quickly master key organizational platforms including Salesforce, Slack, and Asana.
  • Exceptional time management skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and adhering to deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Previous work or internship experience demonstrating organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong writing abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of teams and external partners.
  • A genuine passion for education, public policy, and transformational initiatives.

Employment Details

  • Salary Range – $50,000 – $60,000
  • Full Time, Exempt Employee with benefits
  • Hours 9 AM – 6 PM daily, Monday-Friday
  • 5 days a week in CER’s Washington, DC office
