Governor

Governor Charlie Baker (R)

Governor Charlie Baker was a strong advocate for new ideas in education in his first term. He supported increasing the number of charter schools as well as increasing the state’s reimbursement formula for those schools. He was a strong supporter of a new law that mandates civics classes in schools. The courses must teach about the state and U.S. constitutions, the Bill of Rights, local history and government, the branches of government, the responsibilities of a citizen in a democracy, digital media literacy, issues related to diversity and power, and etiquette regarding the flag.  He expanded a STEM internship program allowing high school students to earn credit by working at companies in the state. He supports personalized learning and doing what it takes to help students excel. Baker is a walking, talking example of leadership.
