Statement by Jeanne Allen, Founder & CEO, The Center for Education Reform

March 3, 2025

I extend my sincere congratulations to Linda McMahon on her appointment and confirmation as United States Secretary of Education. Linda has demonstrated that she is a dynamic leader with a track record of building and scaling successful enterprises, and I have no doubt that her entrepreneurial and innovative spirit will bring a fresh perspective to education policy.

At this critical moment, we need bold leadership to expand educational opportunity, foster innovation, and ensure that all students – regardless of zip code – have access to a world-class education. I am excited to see how Linda will leverage her business acumen and commitment to excellence to empower students, education leaders, families, and educators across the country. The challenges before us are great, but with strong leadership, we can deliver transformational and sustainable change that benefits generations of students to come.

We call on the nation’s committed and student-focused policymakers, leaders, educators, and innovators from across the education landscape to work together with Secretary McMahon to ensure that freedom, flexibility and full and fair funding drive critical changes for education and the workforce in America, while uncovering and eliminating the federal constraints and barriers to student achievement.

With a new Education Secretary, it’s now time for a concentrated effort to stop the incessant federal interference that stands in the way of delivering great education and empower state and local leaders to foster more opportunities to give schools and educators true flexibility to innovate.

The President should announce during his address to Congress tomorrow that he is ordering an Educational State of Emergency and order that Education Secretary McMahon begin dismantling the programs and services that have contributed to the current educational crisis, a critical milestone on the way to restoring excellence and achievement.

Congratulations, Secretary McMahon. I look forward to working together to advance education freedom and opportunity for all our nation’s students.
